When we moved into our new home, we finally had space for a couch that would actually fit the entire family! For years, we crammed ourselves and two large dogs onto an apartment-sized couch and it was finally time for an upgrade.
When scouring the internet for the sectional sofa of my dreams (which I found to be much more difficult than I had anticipated!) I focused in on a few priorities.
We love letting our dogs cuddle on the sofa with us, so with that, we needed a fabric that can work hard for our family. Luckily there are lots of options within this space these days.
Despite the sectional sofa being a somewhat “modern” style of furniture in general, I wanted the piece to match our home which leans more classic and traditional. Wanting to also avoid the price tag of a custom sofa, I found this factor limited our search quite a bit!
Of course physical dimensions are important with any new piece of furniture, especially of this size! Equally as important, we preferred specific customizations like an L-shape over a chaise sectional and a standard depth sofa versus the modern, deep units.
Based on these priorities, I narrowed it down to two sofas. The Pottery Barn English Arm Upholstered 3-Piece Sectional with Wedge and the Pearce Roll Arm 3-Piece L-Shaped Wedge Sectional.
The Fabric we selected was the Performance Midland Tweed in Oatmeal. See how it holds up against the mustard test here! The runner up for our fabric choice was the Performance Boucle also in Oatmeal. Honorable mention to the Performance Cozy Chenille which was by far the softest of the samples we pulled!

So far we are loving our sectional sofa and it looks the same as the day it was installed!
We decided to swap out the sofa legs for these to really give the couch a custom look. This was really simple to do and made a huge impact. You can check out the before and after here!
We’ve cleaned all sorts of things the dogs have left behind on the couch with ease. The performance fabric has totally lived up to the expectation. You’ll have to put up with Pottery Barn shipping and delivery which can sometimes be a nightmare (my couch was delayed by weeks) but it turned out to be well worth the wait.
